Veteran of the Korean War
Brian Hope, a veteran of the Korean War, sits in front of his computer every Sunday morning. The 89-year-old writes letters to newspapers across the UK with painstaking eagle strokes.
"So-and-so from this region participated in the Korean War and was killed. If you send us photos or stories, we will deliver them to the UN Memorial Cemetery in Korea."
The world's only United Nations Memorial Cemetery, Busan's United Nations Memorial Cemetery, contains 889 remains of British soldiers. A total of 2,300 remains of 11 countries are buried here, and the number of British soldiers is the highest. Grandpa Brian collected 400 photos of his comrades in the last 15 years of sending letters.
In the case of British soldiers who participated in the Korean War, there were especially many young people between the ages of 18 and 19 who were conscripted at a young age. A work to find a 'face' and breathe life into those who died before they even started living, leaving only their names and dates of death. I heard about it from Brian's grandfather.
